Living LARGE in a small space

Most, if not all of you know we have been living in our Casita since May of 2012. Most of you also know that our total square footage is approximately 98 Sq. Feet! We have one drawer, one closet for two people and a bossy westie. Our refrigerator is 4 cubic ft. Which also contains a small freezer compartment...big enough for several pints of Ben and Jerry's. Fortunately, our "TV" or tow vehicle is a stretch Nissan Pathfinder which we pack out pretty heavily😊. Paul has 3 cupboards in the camper for his clothing. The cupboards are all around 3 sides of MiniPearl. There are a total of 4 other cupboards which house food, canned goods, coffee and tea and dishes. The one drawer has knives, forks, spoons and miscellaneous cutlery...ie:  Can opener, cork screw etc. I have a crock full of spoons , spatulas and tongs and a magnetic knife holder also.
That's my new tea cozy from Maine above...

That's an old metal tray which has tons of souvenir magnets sticking to it

This is a new erasable magnet board I bought at Target to hold more of our magnets. We enjoy looking at them and marveling at all the places we have been!

This is our one closet....oh my goodness.... we sure can cram a ton of stuff in here. Talk about living LARGE. Found these three drawer cloth cabinets at Target. Finally, I have an easy way to access my clothes. One drawer for undies, one for pajamas, two for tops and two for bottoms....I feel luxurious!!!
And yes, that is tp, also houses our TV, DVD player and misc storage along with the first aid kit.
No, I am not ready to stop our journey....I am loving it!
Tally ho,
Cathy

  1. You go girl! I've started crocheting custom sacks to put things in instead them sitting on my limited counter space. One hangs on the microwave door for bananas, onions, fruit, etc perishables. Two hang on the wall between the galley & window for coffee creamer & for Thermos & water bottle. I'm making one to attack behind the stove top to "secure" those things so I don't have to pack them up when we travel. I hung a white trash bag under the sink to store to & paper towels. Still thinking on making little crocheted "shelves" for under the upper shelves around the bed for papers, maps, & the plethora of "stuff" that I can never find. Also want to put some kind of trim around the top of the frightened to keep small things (like one of Jeff's hearing aids) from falling off. Any suggestions?

    1. Glenda, you are the queen of mods! Lots of clever ideas. When we travel I put all loose stuff in plastic dishpans I got at Wal-mart for a dollar each. So far, haven't lost or broken anything while moving.

  2. Like the idea of crocheting storage bins....sounds like a winter project. Don't you love the door pockets....couldn't live without those. Nice to follow someone doing what we hope we continue to do and make our first year!

    1. Thanks Carla. There are lots of clever folks out there for sure. Some are very skilled and talented equipped with tools and experience (Kinda like your hubby;-)) Then there are those of us with no tools and very little skill...kind of like me. I love to drool over all the beautiful wood working, electric and plumbing mods....have to travel to Little House custom in Texas for all that! We are headed there in November yea!!!

  3. I am truly enjoying reading your blog and "catching up" with you guys! My husband and I full-timed for a little over a year in our MH (Dutch Star) and had to come off the road due to family issues. We purchased a "new to us" Casita in July and are looking forward to spending several months at a time in the Casita. We can't wait to "camp" again and get into sites that the MH just wouldn't allow. I am reading/learning about storage and just living in this small space. Love all the ideas you share in regard to all things Casita.

    1. Thanks for your comment. All things considered, we feel the Casita offers everything a larger RV has...just more compact. Some people feel the need to take it all along. We figured out we were really happier traveling with a smaller profile. Neither of us wanted to drive a big rig for lots of reasons. Clothes, shoes and food....big issues for me. I work hard at changing my shopping. Not easy, but our Casita has been a great teacher....she only holds so much. Happy travels!

  4. What a great blog, and cool post. Love your 'little' space, and plan on 'poking' around to see more. We are 'living' in our 5th wheel, but hope to have a campervan set up to go visit the far-away kids. Your storage ideas will help.

  7. I am so sorry for being super slow for an update....I have an IPad now and it is hard to switch from windows to apple on Google...so, I borrowed my old tablet back from Paul so I could make this blog post. I think I will start fresh with a new blog, although I doubt of my life these days is at all interesting 😊
